The Cayman Islands, with pristine beaches and crystal clears waters, is an ideal location for open water swimming. Touted as one of the most scenic beaches in the world, the famous Seven Mile Beach is an ideal location to host the 30th annual Pirate’s Week 5K swim. The Pirate’s Week 5K is Cayman’s oldest swimming tradition and takes place on November 13th, 2010 during the week of the Pirate’s Week festival. The event combines the excitement of the Pirate’s Week festivities with a truly amazing open water experience.
As the Cayman Islands is quickly becoming a formidable force in global open water swimming, Pirate’s Week Cayman’s National festival is excited to have the Department of Tourism and the Flowers Group onboard as official race sponsors. The Flowers Group are the organization behind the internationally celebrated and ever popular Flowers One Mile Sea Swim, which is acclaimed by the Daily News of Open Water Swimming, as one of the best open water experiences on earth. Recent world famous swimmers to grace the Seven Mile Beach include, Eva Fabian, Alex Meyer, Ryan Lochte, BJ Bedford, Neil Walker, Ian Crocker, Kristi Kowal, & Cayman’s own Brett and Shaune Fraser.
In combination with Pirate’s Week Cayman National Festival, Flowers hopes to help grow the brand of the 5K and this year’s race will include random prize eligibility for race finishers, medals, exciting goody bags and t-shirts as well as a post race breakfast at Tiki Beach Bar. Top four male and female finishers, will also receive Pirate’s Week Plaques. There will also be a special prize for the event record.
